What Cocktail Is Mad Scientist Green, Full Of Alcohol, But Doesn’t Taste Like It? Our Featured Drink: Green Dinosaur #2
Remember that dinosaur from Jurassic Park that looks small and benign at first, but later spreads out his head plumage and scares the crap out of you? The Green Dinosaur #2 is that creature in liquid form! It looks and tastes fantastic, but it can come back to get you later in the evening.
Tequila, Vodka, and Rum Oh My!
When it comes to hard liquor content the Green Dinosaur #2 has it all. Tequila, Vodka, Rum, and don’t forget the Midori for good measure. Normally I would steer clear of a cocktail that has so many types of alcohol in the mix. These kinds of drinks never have much of a refined or integrated taste. More often than not they leave me feeling like my mouth is that singular dumpster behind the karaoke bar that everyone throws up in before they run back inside to screechingly belt out Air Supply’s “I’m All Out Of Love” in a way that makes my nachos and buffalo wings become as limp as me watching anything with Rosie O’Donnell in it….Ok where was I… The Green Dinosaur #2 is different from all of those drinks, because it’s actually really good!
Welcome To Jurassic Park
The Green Dinosaur tastes great, with a little sweetness with an equal measure of tartness, and just a hint of Tequila taste. I would say it most resembles the taste of a sour candy such as sour gummy worms, but more subtle. The Midori’s sweet melon taste which normally makes me tire of a drink quickly, is kept in check by the tartness and acidity of the lemonade. The rum adds a little warmth to the relatively clean aftertaste.
After all is said and done, you can drink these all night long and be perfectly content. Although that is an absolutely horrible idea, because all of the 80 proof alcohol mixed together in this cocktail should indicate that this dinosaur has teeth. After consuming a few of these you may find yourself (like me) in the dark curled up in a garbage bag with a flashlight, singing kumbaya to an extremely frightened yorkshire terrier….then again your mileage may vary.
It’s Not Easy Being Green
This cocktail has a beautiful ethereal green glow about it. I garnish this drink with a cherry. Mostly because I love the look of the bright red cherry floating in the erie murky green drink. Just look at the image above to see how beautiful and otherworldly it looks. The Green Dinosaur #2 looks as if it would be perfectly at home in a mad scientist’s lab.
